'I want a Web Site' is the cry and 'I want it to have dancing pictures and rotating text'. If you want entertainment why don't you try the cinema!! The success or failure of a web site can depend on its simplicity and speed. Even today with the fast broadband connections Internet users do not want to watch pretty pictures running around the screen but to search and have fast access to information or to join their friends in a lively chat room. The most difficult problem to overcome in writing Web Pages is to keep it simple.

Before you start creating web pages you need to use your file management skills. In My Computer folder, on the Windows Desktop, you can view and select the drives on your computer, and the files stored on your computer. You can use the task links in this folder to view information about your computer, and perform other system management tasks. At this time it would be practical to create a folder on the C: drive to hold your pages and images for your new web.

1) On the Windows Desktop double click My Computer

2) Double click the Local Disk or (C:) drive

3) Click File

4) Click New and Folder

5) Type a new name for the folder (My Web1) or any name you feel is appropriate.

Now that you have created the new folder you can take file management one step forward and in My Web1 create 2 additional folders to save your pages and images.

6) Double click My Web1 folder

7) Click New and Folder

8) Type pages (lower case) Web site folders, file names, and image names are case sensitive.

9) Repeat steps 6 - 8 and create a folder named images.

Once you have completed this task you are ready to create your very own web site.
